Therapeutic/Adaptive Horseback Riding has been around for over 50 years, and has aided in improving the lives of people with a wide-range of disabilities. People facing physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges can greatly benefit from the marriage of conventional medicine and complementary alternative health activities which together cares for the whole person.

Benefits of Adaptive Horseback Riding include improved balance, and physical strength which helps maintain stamina. Flexibility and fine motor skills can be refined.

The psychological affects and interactions with horses include relieving mental health symptoms, increasing relaxation, and improving focus.

In addition, participants develop relationships with the horses and learn to interact with instructors and volunteers and develop positive social skills.

Furthermore skill sets that are learned include repetition, mastering riding patterns, focusing on tasks, and care of horses. Through riding activities participants engage in math and reading.
